Digital Recording Officially Approved

5/14/1999

The Federal Judicial Center for United States Federal Courts released a report on pilot site testing of digital audio recording systems. In key recommendations, the report states that:

"... the Judicial Conference should approve digital recording as a method of taking the official record in federal court proceedings ...."

Subsequently, in September of 1999, the Judicial Conference for the United States Federal Courts approved the use of digital recording systems as a method of taking the official record in the federal court system.

The committee findings were based on evidence obtained during pilot tests of digital recording systems.

The Federal Judicial Center is the research and education agency of the U.S. Federal judicial system. It was established by Congress in 1967, on the recommendation of the Judicial Conference of the United States.
